What is Art-A-Whirl?

The Northeast Minneapolis Art Association’s legendary Art-A-Whirl is the nation’s largest open studio tour.  Hundreds of artists of every stripe and color open their galleries and studios to the public for the most impressive collection of beauty and creativity you can find anywhere in the U.S.

What We’re Doing

We have a non-stop lineup of art, music, poetry, interactive demonstrations, craft beer, multimedia shows, performance art, and food.  In short, we have something for everybody, all the time.

    A new collaborative durational performance by Jaime Carrera and Caitlin Karolczak.

    • Starting at 5:00
    • Acclaimed artists Jaime Carrera & Caitlin Karolczak will once again team up for a one-of a-kind performance happening at this year’s Art-A-Whirl event in NE Minneapolis.
    • Revered for her dark & exquisite figural paintings, Caitlin Karolczak will live paint a portrait of controversial performance artist Jaime Carrera utilising his own “performance tool” (his body) as her canvas while he shifts from stillness & other unexpected performative acts.  It’s a one-time exploration of the complex issues of identity, craft & symbiotic collaboration that should not be missed!
    • As well as the performance on Saturday, Caitlin will be hosting her open studio (with new & recent works) during the entire span of Art-A-Whirl weekend, in which Jaime will also have some of his framed limited-edition prints of his recent photographic work available for purchase.

    • Local hip hop duo UP ROCK, the new solo project from Ryan Olcott (of 12 Rods) C.Kostra, and experimental post-rockers BRONTO
