I’ve been in the Solar Arts community since April of 2025 and must say I love my SAB family and blessed to be surrounded by so many talented artists and share studio 205 with 3 painters. The energy here is welcoming and fuels my creativity.
My passion for creating art is deeply rooted in my parents’ love of traveling by RV. During my childhood, my brothers and I believed that road trips offered a unique experience that airline travel could not provide. We would sit comfortably and watch the scenery pass by, serving as our own version of television. There were no reruns; just breathtaking views that ignited my imagination and encouraged my mind to wander. his sense of wonder has stayed with me into adulthood and influences how I choose the areas I wish to explore.
The long drives and the ever-changing landscape transport me to a different state of consciousness. These journeys rejuvenate my spirit and inspire my creativity, which I express through my artwork. I often feel a pull from Mother Nature, urging me to venture out for new experiences. Unable to resist these calls, I research locations I have not visited in years or have yet to see.
In addition to recharging my soul, select images from my travels become part of my award-winning Photozaics series. These pieces are inspired by a fusion of Van Gogh’s textured brushwork, Ansel Adams’ straightforward compositions, and the calming influence of Bob Ross. The process is meticulous and multi-layered, beginning with my photographs of natural landscapes such as rolling hills or tranquil streams. After adjusting the composition, I take the printed image to a stained-glass studio to select matching colors. I cut the glass by hand, smoothing smaller shards in a rock tumbler to remove sharp edges, while larger pieces are sanded manually before assembling the piece. Grouting completes the artwork, accentuating the detail of each glass shape and adding texture to the overall piece. I refer to this series as “Commando,” symbolizing the liberating experience of integrating photography and stained glass without boundaries—allowing the elements to flow seamlessly together.
